Our House

We live on 3.7 acres in a beautiful part of Chesapeake, VA.  We love our little piece of paradise.

Our Kids (human kind)

Jake, Conrad, Troy and Josh (2007)

This is Jake; he turned 20 this year.  Although he is disabled, he has a wonderfully happy disposition.  He loves baseball and enjoys watching his brothers play any kind of ball.

Conrad is now 15.  He loves reading and playing basketball.  He is always very helpful with the goats, although the chores are not his favorite thing to do.  He is also very responsible and very helpful in other areas around the house.  He is a very hard worker.

Troy turned 14 this year and is very excited about driving also (OK, so he is a little ahead of his time).  He is super smart and is the most interested in the goats.  He has only missed one birth.  He is a natural with the sciences and hopes to become a vet someday.  He is also very athletic and loves football and volleyball.

Josh.JPG

Josh just turned 6 (November).  He is a super energetic and smart kid.  He is in kindergarten and is loving school.  He loves the outdoors and is often found running around outside or hanging with the farm animals or Teddy (Troy's dog).  He loves life and has an infectious smile.

The goat palace

We started with one house for the first two does.  Katrina just wanted a three sided structure, I got a little carried away.  However, once Ticle and Shelly kidded we realized we were going to outgrow it quickly!

Here is the shell in it's early stages...

And here it is a little more complete...

Here is a 9 x 12 addition on the back that we added.  Now it is full and we are in the early planning stages for a new barn...

I added a stanchion station for five goats.  I still need to make another one, but this works really well to make sure everyone gets their portion of grain feed.

I made this hay rack out of half of a cattle panel, bent in a v-shape.  It is attached to the outer wall and can hold up to an entire bale of hay!!  It cuts down on all the energy of refilling a small one two or three times a day.  Now they get a bale, about once every two days!

Sometimes they can't wait until the hay gets into the rack!!  :)

The Buck House

We purchased a buck and scrambled to get his house together.  This is a store bought shed that serves very well for the boys, but it is getting a little more crowded now with our new additions.  It currently houses three bucks and a wether.

Other animals

This is Bear, our Golden!!  He is great with the goats and other animals.

This is Puffs.  We have another cat also, but she won't sit still long enough to get a picture.

The chicken house:  this is our chicken house.  We have about 20 assorted laying hens that are housed here.  We have about 25 more laying chichks this spring (2005) that will soon join the group.

This was our first addition to our farm yard.  We purchased this custom built barn from a N. Carolina storage shed/barn builder.  We like it a lot!  Later we realized that it is cheaper to do it yourself!!

Some of our laying hens.  We love our farm!!

Proper exercise and a healthy diet are essential to happy goats!!
