Breeding Goals

Our goals are very simple.  We want small goats, that look great and milk even better!  Not asking for much, are we?   To that end we are striving to produce a herd that has great, well attached udders with large capacity.  We also want our goats to have that beautiful dairy look.

Because we also want to be responsible breeders and improve the breed we will wether all bucks who do not meet the highest possible standards.  As we bring new or young bucks into our herd, we will watch their progeny for the bodies and most importantly the udders we are striving for.

Therefore, we will not sell any animal from any breeding that does not meet our standards and yours.  We will do our very best to provide you with a second choice animal from a similar breeding, if available.  Please see the Purchasing Animals section below for more info.

Herd Health

Feeding:  There are many ways to feed your goats.  Much will depend on what is available in your area of the country.  We have a hard time finding hay that has an adequate protein content.  Therefore we feed all our goats free choice hay, pelleted feed, and free choice minerals.

We stanchion feed our goats.  That means that each goat has their own little space to eat where they are "locked in" by a double ended lead attached to their collar and the fence by their bowl.  We have really found that this routine works best for us.  We can control exactly how much each doe gets according to her individual needs.  This also eliminates the "bullies" not letting the lower ranking goats get enough feed.  We feed everyone while we are milking.  The milkers get extra rations on the milk stand plus a special blend that we make for them.

Our bucks are also fed free choice hay, minerals and a pelleted feed that has ammonium cholride in it.  We tried only feeding the boys hay, but had a hard time keeping weight on them, so we added the pelleted feed.

Babies:  Our kids (the goat ones!) are bottle or dam raised.  We have expermimented with dam raised babeis for the ease of work, and our kids are generally friendly.  However, we also see numerous benefits from bottle raised babies.  It is all lot of work, but the effort is worth it in the end.

We worm during season changes and as necessary so as to not break down the natural immunities that are present in livestock.  This has worked well for us and we are very aggresive should one of our animals appear to have parasites of any kind.  In the near future we will also be using the Famacha method of parasite detection.

We maintain a regular vacination program.  We began testing our animals for Caprine Arthritis Encephalitis (CAE), TB and Brucellosis in 2005.  All our animals are free of CAE, TB, and Brucellosis.

Breeder Support

We stand behind our animals and want our customers to have full support from us after a sale.  We understand that you want the best for your goat, and if you are new to breeding you will probably have a ton of questions, like we did!  We will gladly answer any questions you may have, and of course, we are happy to provide hands on experience on our farm.  We want you to be happy with your goat(s) and we will do everything we can to ensure you have the knowledge you need to not only care for your animal, but also the information necessary to build a quality herd, if that is your goal.  We are building a network of other goat breeders who have helped us, so there is always someone willing to help out.

Purchasing Animals

As we have stated, we only want to sell the very best animals for the breed.  You may reserve a kid from the breeding pairing of your choice, but until we are sure that the animal meets our standards and yours, we will not take a deposit.  Once the kid is born we will send you a picture of that kid.  At that time you may choose to accept that kid or not.  If you decide you wish to purchase said kid, we will require a $50 deposit, paid within 10 days after the sales agreement has been reached.  Your deposit will hold your animal of choice for 30 days, while transportation arrangements are made.  Balance of payment will be due prior to shipping and will be made by check, cashier's check or PayPal.  If paying by check, the animal will only be shipped after the check has cleared.

Note:  It is the buyers responsibility to stay in touch with Kid'n Acres.  We reserve the right to offer the animal for sale if we do not hear from you after the initial sales agreement has been made.

Transportation

Transportation is the responsibility of the buyer, however, we will assist with shipping arrangements upon request of the buyer.  Shipping costs (airline fees) and crate costs are soley the responsibility of the buyer.  All animals that are transported require health certificates and certain other tests which vary from state to state.  These costs are also the responsibility of the buyer.

We can also arrange to deliver your Kid'n Acres kid at one of the shows we attend during the show season free of charge.  Check out our In the Show Ring page to see where we will be in the upcoming show season.

All animals will be shipped when we deem them ready, and not before.  Crates can be mailed to us from the buyer, or we can purchase a crate for you here for the appropriate fee.

Our Guarantee

We guarantee our animals to be healthy and free from any disqualifying faults when they leave our farm.  We also guarantee fertility and will replace any animal that is certified by a licensed veterinarian to be genetically infertile.  Since we cannot control any stress that may occur as a result of shipping, or the animals environment or management once they leave our farm, we cannot offer further guarantees.
